How to make squid interesting:
Make the middle section less blocky and more organic, especially where the tentacles separate from the almost square like body.
Add a hue shift. http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=2836.0
Make the light come from some other direction that from the front, that just leads to pillow shading, which should be avoided unless you really mean it. Being under water, the most obvious light source should be coming from above, from the surface.

The first tries seldom work. But your learning, that's the most important part.

I will suggest adding the other legs in the back, with your darker colors to create the effect of being in the distance.

I would love to see you change the colors on the knight though.
Also his elbow comes down to his waist line? the anatomy needs some work.
His stance seems awkward too.

Hehe yeah that would be me ;) Went through a phase of name change.. should actually make an afflict account its just so pointless. It's getting better & you'll get the knight right soon. I might do some paint overs if you like?

try making your hues on the knight less linear(like you did with the squid)
