Grass

on: July 31, 2008, 07:03:07 pm
I decided to try to draw some grass, maybe make a tileset out of it.
This is what I currently have:

I think it looks decent, but I'd like some professional opinions and advice.

Post it as PNG or GIF first.

Whoops, you got yourself a jehpeg. Photobucket auto saves BMPs as jehpegs so make sure to save as png or gif before uploading.

One thing I will say about grass tiles is that it's usually a bad idea to do a grass tile alone. Most of the time you end up having to rework the grass because it's too contrasty, detailed and lots of other things. It's a background graphic which is a fact that usually gets forgotten if you don't have some NPCs, trees or buildings to remind you. Doesn't look taht'll be a problem with this though can't be too sure because of the jehpeg. Post back soon

I noticed that the moment I posted it, corrected it already.

Don't worry about the rest, the grass tile is just a start. I'll make other things soon enough.

While grass is made of individual blades, it's usually not a good idea to just use dots to represent them.

I suggest to look at how people around here sprite grass, as well as on PixelJoint.
