I'm new, I just found this site, and I need help

on: May 11, 2008, 05:21:25 am
 ;D
Hi, I have been playing with  Ms Paint since Windows 3.1, I have just recently joined after seeing someones stuff from deviant art. They had a link to this site so I though I would check it out and submit some of my stuff here. I need help I still feel that I am a beginner at pixel art, so any help would be appreciated. I'm also having trouble inserting my art, does it have to be from a web or ftp site or am I being technically challenged at the moment.

Thanks

Plaguelock

Pixelation doesn't host things for its users, you need to use an external host like Photobucket, Imageshack, etc.
Oh yes naked women are beautiful

Thanks for the info, is there a way to get it from deviant art? I use that site alot, if that does not work I'll use photobucket.

Deviantart doesn't much like external linking. I'm sure it's possible, but it'd be a hassle at best. Photobucket works well enough for me, but there's also a couple of quick no registry required sites (tinypic comes to mind) that also work well.

This is sprite that I have been working on for two years. It was really bad when I started.  ;D

Tell me what ya think, I really enjoy creating pixel art so anything that can help me improve is really appreciated.

BOO JPEG!

Save it as a GIF file so we can see the exact pixels. ;)

I've gotta go to bed, but for one neverever save as .jpg or .jpeg as it distorts your file and ruins the pixelart-y goodness of it. Second, if you did save as .png or .gif or another clean format, your host must have destroyed its pixelly goodness.

Despite the image distortion, you should look up "pillow shading" and learn to determine a light source to avoid that problem.

I sleep now. Good luck!

I've tried saving my image to photobucket but everytime I upload it it changes the file type to a jpg. Any Ideas on how to fix it or do I just make sure that my file is a bmp before uploading it.

This is the file that photobucket changed after I made sure that the sprite was bmp before uploading it. :'(

I'm going to try to upload it as a gif and see if that works.

Thanks for the advise I'll look up pillow shading this week. ;D

Yup, that's Photobucket.
Photobuckt automaticly converst BMP to JPG.
Upload it at imageshack.us
Or save it as a gif or png first.

Here we go, I tried uploading the image as a png and it doesn't seem to distort the image so here's the png version

I going to try image shack like you said that last image was still bad after using the png
Here is the image using imageshack:

Use the edit button for stuff like this, thanks!

The head on the left has an obvious directional lightsource, whereas the "sphere" (for all intents and purposes) on the right is made of.... Rings of color. Also associated with pillow shading is the tendency to only put shade around the outlines, which I can see in your work.

------------

I'd suggest to pillowshade less (duh) and use less saturated colors. My eyes kind of hurt. The design is really cool, though.
