working (yet again) with arne's beautiful palette, and getting some inspiration from the works created with it, i've made up a little platformer mock up.
and a run animation for what would be one of the main characters.
if only i could program games...

I don't see the masochistic pleasure in working with 4 bit color.

That said, the character design looks pretty tight.

The running animation is 4 frames but really only uses 2 for the head and 3 for the feet. Not sure why you did it that way, might as well use all 4. His shoulder looks like its dislocating a bit.

Maybe you could post the palette also so I can see what you're working with?

At dev-fr.org, i know a couple of game programmers that wish they could do pixel art. I'm sure we could find people to team with you...

Erhm. Maybe you want to check the "newsbox" above. Arne's palette is presented there with people trying it on various medium.

I do see an interest to work with a well-crafted palette rather than trying to find out proper colours, but that's just because i'm really bad at picking colours :P

Well in that case, he added a color ( 33 G, 40 B, 46 R ), so he's using 17 colors not 16. And 17 colors cannot fit into 4 bits, so he might as well just use 256 colors 8)

When he montioned the shoulder out of the socket, I think he meant just the shoulder, not the entire arm.  the pixels on the shoulder scrammble around between frames, and I think it's even worse in the new six frame version.  I think fixing those scrammbles will finish it.
I'd like to see a shooting animation now.

Ya what Joseph said about the shoulder.

Honestly I liked look of the first animation better, its just it has 4 frames, and doesn't really use all 4. Just seemed a little wastefull is all.

here's one where i fixed the arm problem. i'll be working on some shooting animations and maybe an enemy animation soon. if i flesh this out, i can turn it into a game project.
trouble is the only game programmer i know/work with is never around and always busy with other stuff.
if anyone wants to take a crack at it, feel free. :)
