Some Lady ~ 3/4 portrait

on: September 19, 2008, 03:38:07 am
I am actually posting art, see!

I guess it's like I'm revisiting this old one...

...because oh boy it sucks.

I need some critique pretty hard.  Major concerns include:
~lighting?
~colours...evidently washed out, looks much higher contrast in Gale.  Will remedy.
~Anatomy, always.

I am worried about making this too shiny-mannequin looking.  I think I have avoided it so far, but my palette still strikes me as sterile.  Or at least dull.  I'm not sure about this.

Obviously unfinished parts:
~hair
~ear
~shirt

Anyway!  Criticism is of course welcome.  I think people are getting very good at picking apart this subject matter, so I expect good things!

I've had enough for tonight but I will peg away at it more tomorrow.

Just some shifted pixels here and there for anatomy's sake. It seemed to me the nose was too thin and the eyes were too far out. That's about all.

Hope it's of some use. Looking forward to seeing this progress. :y:

Thanks Cow, your suggestion has been taken into account.

Hair, shirt, basically polishing everywhere, increased contrast...

Oh darn I forgot about that ear.

I think her left cheek bone ought to be lowered a little bit to be even with her right one, her jawline ought to be a little lower, and I'd try moving her right eye to our right (or moving her left eye further right spatially instead), while making a little indent where the nose meets her forehead.  Or perhaps her nose just needs to be shifted to our left instead of messing with the eyes so much.

Some edits to mouth, nose, earposition, jaw and top of head/hair. You need to keep in mind the skull under the hair. The hair is on top of that and adds a bit of height.

There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

There's some subpixel weirdness with the green/pupilhighlight on one of her eyes.

Hm, noted, except I'm not sure about my fix...

Here eyes should be more even now as well?
