Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd

on: February 05, 2008, 10:50:49 pm
Hello!
I'm trying to pixel a picture of Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd.  I'm not really aiming for a likeness to Bonhem Carter, but the costume will be based on that of the recent movie.
Still very messy and sketchy right now, but I'm not happy with the shading around her neck and am a bit unsure how to proceed.  Looking at it now, I think there's too much highlight on her left shoulder, but I often get confused with shading.
All crits welcome, thanks!

nice so far, very very burton.

just clean clean clean clean.......:D
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

I like it :)
So far so good, only problem I can see is the shadow on her left side and hip.
That should probably be on the other side based on the way her neck is illuminated.

Thanks Adarias and Salvage :)
The light is coming from the top, a bit to the left... yes, I screwed up on the lighting on the neck as I wasn't sure how to handle it.  I still have to do some work on it so it hopefully won't look quite as flat, but is this approach better?
A tiny bit of cleanup, and more work on the hair was done as well.

The shadow above her clavicles is off/odd. Shadows don't make things flat maybe have some subtle highlights in there?

Otherwise I think it's coming alone nicely and the piece is really smooth.... at least where you've AAd. I'd love to see how this progresses. I'm a little worried about how you'll handle the fur but I really shouldn't say anything until you've done anything.
Keep it up, I'd like to see this piece finished.

I worked on the neck a bit more, I think it's better now.  Some more updates, but haven't tackled the fur yet ;)

Looking lovely so far. my only crit would be that her chest could be a little more bony. I googled Debra Messing for reference, but couldn't find any good pics of her bony chest :D This was the only sorta good one:

So then I googled for anorexia, and... after almost barfing at the results, I found this pretty good ref for your lady:

Thanks for the refs Cave (wow that picture was disturbing), but while it's unrealistic it's kind of a style thing for me to make her that stretched out :)

This is looking awesome, can't wait to see it finished. I'd take the lack of comments as a compliment. :)

Critique-wise, her right forearm is looking a little odd in my opinion. I think if it curved from the elbow to the wrist in one smooth arc it'd work,
but at the moment it starts a little too far down from the elbow. Also her right hand looks somewhat disjointed, but I'm guessing that you just haven't
got round to working on that yet. I'm still a little unsure about the red fur, but that's just a personal preference. I feel that just having the lips,
and the blood bright red would be more hard-hitting.
TAKE A KEY FOR COMING IN!
