[WIP] 32^2 Character and Run Cycle

on: January 29, 2008, 07:36:11 am
This is my first sprite (that I actually posted here at some point...) that I picked back up recently. The original inspiration was Cave Story, but I have been trying hard to refine my own style. The animation is still very blocky, but I don't know quite where to improve it (I will probably be adding another 4 frames to interpolate). One thing I do notice is that after looking at it a bit, he seems to run backwards; is that just because he's not actually moving, or can I fix that? I'm also unsure about the black outlines: they add readability, but is it a waste of pixels? Thanks for the help.

Hmm....... Can i have a frame sheet for this? i think i see the problem. For one thing, he bounces to much when he walks. And it looks like there a pause when one foot is fully up. And about the black outlines, i would do something more like this:

Here is a walkcycle tutorial that will help you, and will allow me to only have to type very little. He in fact, bounces way too much as coran stated. Is this just 2 frames? That's all I can see.

I like it alot! Very .. i don't know ... zippy. Really gives the impression of running, I don't think you need to change it at all.

My shot at a maybe more realistic run, but I still prefer original.

Black outlines are great, especially for cartoony stuff.
Modern artists are told that they must create something totally original-or risk being called "derivative".They've been indoctrinated with the concept that bad=good. The effect is always the same: Meaningless primitivism
