Base icon

Hi this is my first time here. and I'm trying to get use to making mini sprite icons and I want to get better at making bases. This is used on a bleach game on a site callled byond a 2d/3d game.
So C&C please :). I believe this is 28x32 hight/width.

ehh? if this is being used in something you should generally link.

Anyway, this little guy suffers from a ridicules amount of wasted shades and colours. you can get a much better effect with 3-4 shades per section (less even for something this size). You also have no real light source for him, as a beginner you might find it helpful to draw the actual light source into your picture (just as a big yellow orb or something), just to give you an idea where the light is coming from.
Lastly this little fellow seems to be pretty confused to which perspective his in, he seems to be trying to be top down but is somewhat stuck flat and front on.
