looks good, but maybe it'd be more beneficial to you if you eyeballed your colors

Oh ya, the lightest grey you have dithered far out from the shadow, lose it... they don't seem to make much of a difference.

Ops. Pixel Joint's rejecting the pieces on account of them not being mine. In all fairness, I shouldn't post stuff like this anyway, it's kinda easy to copy something so closely (I didn't paint over, trace or colour reduce btw).

Yeah, stuff like this is OK if you learn something from it and apply it to other pieces.  I wouldn't call this stuff completely yours by itself because the colors and everything are so heavily referenced that it's more just a copy of the original than an original work all its own.  You should just use these as learning tools, and for your next pieces eyeball the colors based on what you've learned.

That sucks. I mean, if you do the superimposing trick, it's really pretty clear that these aren't paint-overs:

They're studies. Which ought to be okay.
(i don't have anything else to add  but nice fruit studies Obs)

Thanks for that Tocky, I might use your post as "evidence". It's ironic that the better you replicate an image, the more people suspect you've cheated. Luckily for me I'm not that good :).

They've both been approved now, thanks.

Great stuff!  I also agree that you're definitely ready to start eyeballing your own colors though, that's a very natural next step and I think you'll learn a LOT doing your own mixing that way!
