Topveiw walking?

on: November 11, 2007, 03:19:02 pm
I have co clue what i'm doing.
Well, my friend and I are entering a game making contest, and the subject is winter.[due date: dec. 23rd]
We are going to make a snowball fight game.

But I have no clue how to show walking.
Heres my try:

Looks horrid.

So please, crit the crap out of the animation, and sprite. We want these to be as good as possible.(I need better colors for 1)

EDIT: Anyone have any idea how to draw a pine tree from overhead?
***extra apologies to people who commented on my other threads. I did read your your comments, and used them. This has just gotton in the way..***

Do you think everything should be AAed?

Stuff(CRITCRITCRIT):

Snow balls/footprints/snowflakes

New:

should i use shading? or AA?

When your right leg goes forwards your body moves with it, leaving the left leg behind. SO where's that back leg behind him. Also you will most likely be aple to see more shoulder and perhaps a bit of the back as well. Then the upper arm sticks out beyond the shoulders a bit with the lower arm bent slightly inwards to the torso.

are you dead set on this extreme of a topdown view?
i would try working with something showing a bit of the body.
personally, i think it would look better/more readable; and also i think it would be  bit easier to convincingly animate.
good luck.

Ya, it's already started, and i like how it looks. Not to mention I only have a couple days left. Which is why I need help on walking =]

I don't like the style but it's still good. The throwing animation is a bit too fast to me.

Also, the "no hat" guy is hardly readable. Here's what I first thaught it was:

Haha, sorry.
My English is poor, sorry about that..

it might not be too fast, but there are too few frames for anyone to see it.  Also, there's not enough windup, so it doesn't function like a real throw (which means decision...action) and more like a gun and it also doesn't make sense visually.  I would really question whether the face stays focussed on the target the whole time too, or if it turns and just keeps the eyes watching.

the human body does not only exist underneath the face, you should really try to bring in a little more of it if you want these to read as anything but 'floating head doctor'

the second character isn't readable.  you need to fix that.

his post was not stellar, but perfectly sufficient for what he wanted to suggest.
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

What do you mean by not readable and how can I fix it? In my opinion it came out pretty good.

And I may not be able to perfect these, because I have hardly any time, but I'm willing to work on them(Although I am in need more of animation help). So you think another frame before the throw, and one after?

Thanks for the post =]

There's some kinks to work out.. just like floating head doctor..
The head looks like it's pointed upwards.
And I thought the fuzzy headed guy was a yeti, so Bouzolf's post.. well.. it owned.. :-\
it might be a one shot deal
