12+t nepalese girl

on: November 19, 2005, 09:41:44 am
And no matter how much i tried i couldn't get the shading right.
Please post your opinion, i'm hungry for them. Feel free to edit it.
the guys at `pixel joint` wont post any comments, i think i'm too newbie for them.

edit:
I figured out how akira couldnt see the image. You're using crappy m$ stuff akira. here is a gif image for m$ slaves.
Colors apper lighter than they really are in the gif image. it lacks contrast. (And i have to pay for graphicsgale to save gif images)

absolutely weird. I can see that @ home and @ office. It's photobucket, not a weird service.
Anyway here is the imageshack one

I see it just fine. The problem is probably on your end, AKira.

The picture has no depth. I see that you've chosen your light-source, which is good, but there's so little shading. Even if the light-source were REALLY bright, there'd still be, at least, a shadow being cast on the wall behind her. I'd give you more critiques, but it's 4 am here. I'm sure someone else can take it from where I left off.

here's an edit:

better shading. i changed the odd yellow tone to a more skinlike tone. there now is ashadow casting on the wall (but i'm not too happy with it)
Thanks for the advice monsoon2d. looking forward to more advice and critics.

Okay. I went to bed, but woke up really early. >_<

I did an edit for you, and created a 2-frame animated gif showing the original image and the edit. That way you can zoom in and see what changes I made.

I tried to change as little of the original lineart as possible, but her mouth was way too far down. She almost didn't have a chin. I made a new palette, which ended up looking a lot like all of my standard pink and purple ones. Eh. Those colors just work really well. In the end, I dropped the 14 color original palette down to 12. In really small pieces like these, every pixel makes a huge impact on the picture. If one pixel is out of place, that can make difference between having a nostril, and not having one at all.

Oh. And remember, these forums have a built in image-zoom feature. (Click on the pictures to zoom in.) You don't need to post the images at 2x size.

There are still some spots that aren't right on mine. I hope that you can pin-point them ('cause then you'll be able to spot them in your later pieces.)

Thank you for the shading monsoon. I'll check it pixel by pixel. I really admire your work (especially your avatar). I was not aware of the `click to zoom` feature. thank you for pointing it.

here's a quickie animation:
