I'm looking for a program, preferably freeware or cheap which i can use to animate with. I'm entirly new to animation and i have some requirments.

I've used the freeware Microsoft Animator before and the main problem i have with it is that it kills the colours and shading whenever you import something. It removes colours and fucks with the dithering. So a must is:

  • Accurate preservation of the shading, colour and form on conversion to a .gif.
The ablity to maintain custom imported pallets from adaptive gifs (this is how i normally save my work).
  • Easy useability
  • Afordability (I don't want to pay $700 for a program... ^^;; )

These are my main concerns, i would like to know what you all use and what you can recomend. : )

I use GraphicsGale. It's cheaper than Promotion ($16) and enchanted by the spirits of a thousand Japanese dot artists.

I started with GraphicsGale and moved on to Pro Motion. Both programs are exactly what you're looking for. There's a freeware vesion of GG but you'll need to buy a copy to save as GIFs.

Are there any other programs in which if you change the color on the palette, it changes automatically on the image apart from Pro Motion? I think it's very helpful but I rather not wish to pay $70 for it :(.
Sorry for my english.

Yeah, but they selected features they took from the lite version very precisely to make people buy full version. As I read about it, it seems that working with lite would be kinda annoyng sometimes.

GraphicsGale can. Actually, in Pro Motion you have to use a plugin to remap colors in a palette by hand, whereas GraphicsGale can do it right out of the box.

Full version of GraphicsGale = $16 USD. Full version of Pro Motion = $70 USD.

Isn't it like that with Pro Motion you can use it right after installation and for the GraphicsGale you need plugin? I've searched it in GraphicsGale's help and didn't find any topics about remapping (if that's how its called :P).
