[WIP] Char for mockup

on: September 12, 2007, 01:57:50 am

1 of the chars for a mockup I'm making, I think I'll call her Dia
Nevermind the sketch on the right, just started that.
Yea I kinda took the bow splitting into 2 blades from Kid Icarus lol  :P
I'm having trouble making the blades look good tho, if someone can help, please do.
Thanks

I did an edit here. I fixed the shading on the handle a bit. Reshaded the blade too. A tip on shading blades of sword is to place the darkest shade on the left and lighter dark shades on the right. Look at my example below.

  • It's critique, don't take it personally.

The character seems to be leaning... you need to adjust the balance so she's not falling over backwards...

I fixed that already baccaman, I'll post the edit soon
As for the blade, I don't really like the look of your edit, but I'll try to experiment with what you've said

EDIT

Fixed some stuff, the sketch on the right is still a 5mins work btw.

You really need to go study up on some anatomy/basic proportions, there's plenty of Andrew Loomis books in .pdf form that can help and good reference is on deviantART's photo section. For the big sprite, you just, gotta fix all those anatomy problems and for the small one, it feels really stiff. You're really close to pillow shading on the small sprite, be careful about that.

Hmm, well I think I was wrong putting that sketch there, I know theres mistakes, you can't do perfect stuff in 5mins.

About the little sprite, can you specify, apart from the fact that it looks stiff, whats wrong with it?
I'm working on a gba sized bg atm too.

Don't know how to say it anymore more clearer: Anatomy needs work and so does the proportions, like for instance on the small sprite: people do not have eyes that large, her body is angled oddly, etc.
The best thing I can suggest is studying up on anatomy and proportions and using reference for your work. I redlined your big one:

Omg lol, I think you made me notice something without meaning to  ;D
Thanks for that, and for the edit too even tho I was aware of most anatomy mistakes already.
The little sprite should look better in my next update.
