pretty cool. nice classic pose.

i do find it hard to see where the arm is going, as I can't really feel the prespective of the foreshortening.

nice environment. thoug some moon light would make it classic.

take care,

Kazuya

This is pretty good so far. I would suggest giving the snow a bluish gray color, since your sky is so dark. Perhaps reduce the contrast everywhere then... at least finish your composition in detail, then I can give some advice on colors. Keep going!

I agree about the arm, another thing is the general stance - seems to me that the upper body is bent a bit too far forward, I think such a stance would mean he´s about to topple over.
other than that - looks good. looking forward to what you make of the second figure

This truly is one of my favorite WIP's I've seen in a long time of lurking.  I'm just concerned if that turquoise esque color you're using for the robe is final, because to be honest it seems to conflict with the general mood.  Don't ask for a technical explination on that, I think it might be an artistic thing, and I could be wrong.  None the less, this has plenty of potential, and I look foreward to the finished result.

So, I saw Flying Daggers yesterday... does that..?

Heh, nah. The pic's great so far. Really looking forward to seeing a finished piece come from this.

The mistake lies not in the arm, but in the hand. Try making the hand holding the sword five times as big as the other hand, this should fix the perspective...

Well, thank you for all commentary, you have indicated me right way for further drawing.
As result, this variant of the unfinished picture. :)

Little (little? ho-ho!) has repcolored, has changed the cloth and has corrected the pose.

I think you fail on the prespective of the arm. if the arm is so perpendicular to the light of sight, then maybe we should see a bit of the elbow. also the sword messes up the prespective, because the handle has a normal size and prespective, but the blade looks in prespective, plus it's short. so it looks like its going away from the viewer. only samurai swords are a bit more bend, specially ig you see them from that angle, you can  really tell they are bent.

and finally, I cant really see how he is holding it. are the fingers pointing down, or up? is the thumb over or under the handle?

take care,

Kazuya

Re: Samurai

you are right!

so, he's holding his sword backwards and pointing it back. shouldn't the position of the sword for the hand to bend a little more? so we would see less of the fingers and more of the wrist?

any ways, dich dude, i'm just being really picky. It works the way it is, but it would be cool if you could put some more dinamic into it, and fixing the prespective would help.

keep it up!

Yes, you right and I shall think about hand and shadowing on left hand for best visualization of the  prespective.  ;D

Fingers pointing up. :)

i looks realy random and could use some improvement.

Really nice WIP. I like...
MORE.
SAVORY... MORE...

Anyways, I still think the foreshortened hand can still be a bit larger.
The blade could get a little thinner as it moves away from the POV.

The hand and sword look a bit weird now, but im guessing the swords kinda facing away from him. And I liked the robe...why change to pants  ???

It's a bit too cold to be going commando, don'tcha think?

Anyways, I really like the red samurai guy. The whole piece is very cool, but the blue guy looks a little weird...his whole pose is awkward somehow.

It might help the falling down effect to arch his back just a titch and pull the head back to he's looking up, and open the mouth like he's suprised. Right now (IMHO) he's a bit too stiff and expressionless to look like he's dying.

I'd have to say, my first impression is that the sword doesn't look like a katana at all. The rest of the picture is really awsome, but you need to spend some time in google image search for the sword... it's looking more roman right now than anything.

I just find it weird that the red dud is holding the blade like that, and the blue dud gets the cut on this side...

having a hard time seeing how it happened.
