I thought Thumbnailing is the same as sketching/doodling but on a very small scale to figure out composition/partitioning/placement/etc.
I guess so. My experience of thumbnailing is that you can put anything that reads and conveys a quick useful impression (in a 1"..2" picture size) in them. Gesture of the focal figure(s) might be included - IME it's usually central.
If you insist on being pessimistic about your own abilities, consider also being pessimistic about the accuracy of that pessimistic judgement.

Thank you both, Student of the Pixel and Helm. Just dropping in to report that I have starting porting this glossary to a proper wiki at http://paag.dennisbusch.de which will make maintenance and expansion much easier.

So the glossary in the first post of this thread will not be updated anymore. I will still watch this thread for suggestions on terms that should be included in the glossary.
