How can one best use unusual colors in shading?

on: July 13, 2020, 05:36:09 am
I've seen a lot of fantastic pixel art where the artist will use unnatural colors in their shading. Crazy pinks, greens, blues, reds... Sometimes it's just some reflected light in the shadow. I find that I have a difficult time with this, and end up working my way back to more "normal" colors when I try to push outside my comfort zone a little.

Have any of you found that you have similar trouble? Do any of you enjoy working in this style and could offer some advice? I'm interested to hear what people have to say on the matter.
