Sorry for being ignorant but could someone explain what sub pixel aa is.

Really love this piece though and the whole 1-bit pixelling in general. Great job!

Jason.

This is really cool, I love how it's all grayscale.

I think if you added just a hint of color on the char, it would pop it out and make it more interesting to the eye.

...the point of the excercise being that it is in fact 1 bit... 2 colors... black and white... or on and off...

adding an extra color would make it not 1 bit and therefore the title of the thread "onebitbattery" would be kind of redundant.

:)

Hmm maybe make a first layer of ground near the surface that is lighter?

he already is and he is perfectly easily distinguished from his environment, xion FTW

The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

I agree, he stands out pretty well, even in a static image. If he were to actually move, this would separate him even more so. No need to do any additional work on separating.

Geez, sorry for the lack of replies and all, guyzorz. I'm moving + school recently restarted, so it'll probably be a while before I get back into any internetial routine. But I tried to address some of the problems. But it's on another computer which is currently packed away and deep in self storage.

Ptoing: Point taken.
TakaM: Fixed the nastiness in the eyes. (how'd I miss that?)
Jad: Thank ewe muchly sirr. :D
Arachne: Will see what I can do on the canopy. And I agree on the vertical movement and armimation, so when I'm able to animate, will do on that, too.
Robotacon: What?
QuickSilva: Subpixeling is sort of like using not-quite-one color, but hardly another in animation to make it appear as though there is a pixel halfway between pixels. In this 1bit example, it's not quite so simple to pull off as that, since I've only got 2 colors and no not-quites or hardlys to use in between. And thanks :)
Baccaman: Nice to see ya postin' again, Baccy. Trip going well?
KittKatt: Hmm...Yeah, see Baccyboy's post.
Rest: Thankee very much, but/and yeah, I agree with Adar and Dusto in that the character stands out enough already.

I don't think I'll be able to update with any animations for a minute, but I've still got trusty ol' MSP, so maybe I'll work on some other environments and do like Arachne said with the tree canopy, and think of some other characters to go with it. Thanks for all the feedbacks, and again, sorry I'm unable to implement them right now, but you know how things be.

*goes back to packing boxes*

Not wanting to go offtopic so I'll keep this short...

Trip went well - had to come back early due to wife becoming pregnant [oops :S] - but still did a great deal of fun stuff... Back in UK now holed up in Brighton... looking for work... and posting here too...

It's nice to be back... but I think I'd rather be in S.America right now - but hey ho... little boy due in 6 weeks... I'm gonna be a Daddy??!

Good luck with the move... and well, see ya around!
