[wip] Hamster

on: August 24, 2007, 04:57:40 am

Planning to add a bunch of fur texture, but I need some help first on how to make him less flat. Any other crits' be awesome now, too, it's still pretty easy to change stuff.

The arm shadow is a primary component in its flatness, as far as I can see.
Where the arm meets the shoulder, the shadows should be small, closer to the arm, sharper, and darker.
As the arm gets farther from the body, the shadow should get a little lighter, significantly blurrier, and farther away. Where your hamsters arm looks like it's about half a foot above a cardboard cut out of a hamsters body. I'll do an edit if I can't sleep :).
Oh yes naked women are beautiful
But I like shrimps more haha ;)

The first and third renditions of the character seem much better. The final one loses the dynamics of the third, and i like the fun pose of the first one. The sharp, rigid lines are a must, i think. In the third one the arms are a bit weird though, too bendy looking, they need more obvious joints like the first.

Light's not consistent with the shadow, I just noticed.   :sry:
Hoping for crits on the fur, please.

That looks a bit like wood i think... the texture looks odd against all those flat shaded areas.
My edit, dont like it much but maybe it can give you some ideas.
