A Portrait

on: August 21, 2007, 12:19:49 am
Hello!  This is my first thread and post on Pixellation, and before I get to the actual portrait, I just wanted to say how impressed I am by the general quality of the stuff on this forum; it's given me a lot more motivation to try stuff out and to improve my pixel art skills.

That said, here is something I made recently, a small portrait I made referenced from the picture found here:

Any comments and criticisms would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome!  this is a great start.  Something you could try is ripping out that black outline, and using natural contrast and lighting to define the shape for you.  good start!

From Adam's advice, I made an edit and removed the black outline. It's far from perfect but, it gives you the idea how it would look like.

Hope this helps :)

Hello Froli,

Your edit inspired me to play a little with a color palette I'm working with.
Maybe a little OT but I wanted to share it with you all anyways:

Best regards from

Thanks Adam and Froli (Ariakas?)!  It does look a lot better without the outline, Adam, and Froli...  o.0, it's amazing!  I have a lot to learn yet... I didn't want to become defendant on what you provided, so I had two windows open, one with the photo and one with my original, with yours just offscreen so I could look at how you did something but hopefully not copy it exactly.  This is the result:
