[WIP] Funky Banana.

on: August 08, 2007, 06:36:28 pm
So, I decided I finally need more help. On a Banana.

I did use a reference, mind you.

From the name, you can tell there are plenty of Jaggies, even for how small it is. I don't know how to fix an outline like that after you.. Draw it. .O.

I also need help defining the colors in the Banana, which seems to be impossible for me..

Anti-aliasing should be one of the last things you do.

generally speaking, you shoudl try and get your silhouette correct before you move on to coloring, but fixing it after the fact just means redoing the shading in the area you change; inefficient but otherwise no problematic.  practice!

Ornust, the point of us helping you is for us not to do it for you, you know there are problems that you could easily fix but yet you won't fix them, I'd give you a link to a tutorial or two but I'd bet you'd say "I've already read them", well, it's obvious that you didn't learn anything from them, you gotta at least give more of a attempt man. :blind:

I made a quick edit, took about 20 minutes or so:

Your banana was too thin, looked like a pepper, so I made it a bit wider, cleaned up the lines and changed the palette around.

Hehe, sorry for abandoning the thread. Crisis.  :ouch:

Now, then, here is my current progress:

Quite fantastic compared to the old one, I would say. I am going to try and define the light source more thoroughly, now, however.

(Also, I once again forgot the White background. However, this may work to my advantage, as I plan to add a background.)

In 30 minutes:

Changed Pallete, Added shading layer, messed around a little bit. Went to bed.

While it is an improvement, you're making it appear rather blockish by the single color shading. Furthermore, you're ignoring what a lot of people are trying to do to help you. Every one of the edit has shown the charachteristic splotching of bananas. I almost never see a pure yellow banana. There's always some bruising some browning, it's part of being a banana. Also, you're using too many colors, 12 different colors for that banana, the way I see it, you'd only need 4 for what you have there.

I know about all that, I just didn't have enough time to add everything. I was sleepy.  :D

the left side of it is too flat.  also, banana's are round, keep that in mind when you do shading.

The bananas I eat are much smoother than those rotten bananas by bengoshia and Eyecraft, really. That is not to say you don't need to fix your shading, because you really need. I don't have the time to do an edit for now, thouygh.

Added two more shading layers. Now all that's left to do is add brown spots, perhaps?

I think you still need to refine the lineart. The shape is off, banana's usually start off skinny, then thick, then skinny again. Also, the middle shade does nothing for it, and you need to define the 'segments' of the banana. They're not smooth all the way around.

Not to say much, but I think I'm improving drastically from what I was. I changed to This:

Everyone who reads this thread can see where you started, and where you are currently at.  They can also see that you are ignoring sound advice in favor of an ego-boosting junk post.  Please stick to developing your art skills!  Any more fluff and you'll get a strike.
