Trouble with boring

on: July 21, 2007, 03:19:28 pm

it's supposed to be flat, as of yet uncultivated land.  the trouble is that that just seems to kinda suck.  Any ideas on how to make this more interesting?  Regular crits accepted as well

You could throw in some puddles.

How about adding some regular furrows, indicating that it's been plowed..? Weeds as well, unless those are weeds that you have there already.

A small stream or two would look good.

Well, I would assume that such an area would have terrible gusts of wind and lots of dust in the air with nothing much to hold it down. As far as the pixels, I would eliminate or define the green squares on the rims of the grass tiles.

Rocks, cactuses, dead trees, cracks, animal tracks, animal remains or shrubs? It depends on how dry and barren you want it, I suppose. :)

more barren than that i'm afraid :\

ill try some animated dust clouds over it and look towards the grass

the real trouble with this is that it's supposed to be almost completely barren and has not yet been made into a farm (so no plowing).  There are easy ways to make this into a different place, but i'm still not sure how to make this place not totally boring.

what makes you think that a BARREN area should be interesting in the first place?
its already interesting enough for what it is, if not more.

Yar, I don't really see anything that needs improvement, besides what appears to be just missing or badly placed tiles. I don't see how or why you would want to add more, since it already conveys the info that "this place is fucking dead!" while still looking good and interesting.

Looks good enough. Throw in some rocks and more plants, and maybe some marks of wildlife even?
