Arachne makes me jealous.

on: July 18, 2007, 08:09:21 am
I did a spray on bandage today. It burnt worse than the actual burn burnt. Then I read the label and you're not supposed to use it on burns. Although it's now more of a scab than a burn anyhow.

Oh, and I have some colors to show.

I think the eye sort of looks too much like a globe. When I told someone that, they said they wouldn't have noticed had I said nothing. I guess I screwed the pooch with that viewer. I do not know what screwed the pooch means, I just wanted to say it.

The dithering doesn't fit the piece at all, the body still looks like a WIP but maybe you should try it without dithering(this would probably mean adding new colors, obviously). I also think the mouth just seems.... too small, try to make it a bit bigger, you should probably make the pupil and the color part outside of it bigger(I forgot the actual term for that part), maybe the eye could be a bit bloodshot?

Yes, I do have a tendency to dither everything, whether it needs it or not. I've got color conservation so deeply ingrained in my mind that I feel a slight pang each time I add a color.

Also, of all things, I can't believe I forgot to link to Arachne's lines here.

Also, iris is the word.

It's always fun to see what others can come up with, and I like this a lot so far. I think dithering is fine, but I think it's easier to make more gradual transitions when you don't have to adhere to a set pattern. You have some areas with very visible patterns now, like the area to the left of the iris. Adding some more checkerboards there should help, and breaking up the rest with some more irregular dithering might look more natural.

Looking forward to seeing it done :D

Dither on eyes always looks weird.
The iris and pupil are oddly positioned/shaped in relation to the rest of the eye.
It's making the eyeball look more like an egg than a globe.

Small update. Rounded off the eyeball, although the line isn't very rounded at all now that I see how my aa knowledge has deteriorated. Still have to fix the position and shape of the iris and pupil.

I really like the broken up organic dithering being used on the, will have to do that with the shadows too.

Slight update:

I think a bump is warranted now that it's been five days and I have yet another update.

I don't think the shape of the iris looks right. In what way does a circle on the edge of a sphere warp?

I really like the textures I've managed to get. Especially the look of that shiny, smooth bell pepper shaped growth. I've grown fond of that horrible pulsating cyst.

You managed to, in a sense, warp the shading around the sphere, the iris would do pretty much the same.

I really like how the body looks. :y:

Something more like this :D I drew the iris is a bit too flat/placed it too far from the edge. :blind:

Edit: This is Photoshop's 3D transform filter at work, by the way.
