Fairy with a sweet tooth

on: December 18, 2007, 08:00:36 am
This is my entry in a sprite competition at another board:

(13+t, had to remove transparency due to wings not being visible here)

The competition is called "Sprite Jam", and this week's topic was "Sprite & Jam". :)

My primary concerns: the wings suck & the face is a mess.
Any c+c appreciated.

Good start, and on first glance:
Jam could use some highlights to make it look more liquidy.
Her butt is disconnected from her legs, which looks rather... weird.
Oh yes naked women are beautiful
But I like shrimps more haha ;)

Still life, my friend. Grab a jar of jam and a sketchpad and get drawing.
Highlights and reflections are fascinating and incredibly fun to draw. Our eyes are kind of trained to ignore them because usually they're getting in the way when we're trying to watch TV. But when they are missing from a picture the result is very flat and not visually exciting at all.

Another problem with the jam jar is that it appears to have no thickness on the edges, where it looks like the jam goes all the way to the edge.  In reality there should be a little empty space where we actually see the glass edge-on.  Just because glass is clear doesn't mean it's not there!

Really good start, though.  The proportions of the fairy are near-perfect, and once you fix that little butt issue the anatomy will look awesome.

Aw, it's cute. I like it very much. ^_^
Very well done.
I don't have any critz since just about everything has been pointed out already.
Although maybe her rear could look a little fuller by adding a few pixels on the curve of the left cheek. Looks fine as it is though. *shrugs*
