That's the bottom part of a half tank half mech thing. The bottom will have treads, and the top will be like a robot. The one on the right is the original, and the one on the left is the one that i messed around with in GIMP. I like the one on the right, but the colors are kind of boring. C&C

The values on both versions looks a bit extreme, try a 50% blend perhaps?

Also, the background (HSV color and detail) affects how you perceive foreground colors a lot, so try to vary the BG every now and then. Sometimes you can change something by not changing it, but instead changing something adjacent.

I'd say it's better, but also the first one was not bad (but indeed I guess much would depend on the context). IMHO a different background would make it look better.
Besides that, just a couple of quick notes:
a) the light source is at the top-right corner, so it's a bit strange that the leftmost parts of the tracks, which should be sloping down, are highlighted so much (even more than the rightmost ones);
b) what's that ring on the left side? A lid? It's got some transparent pixels inside, so it strikes me as odd - but I could be just me as I'm not into military vehicles.
