I am in need of animation help.

on: June 08, 2007, 12:42:05 am
I decided I wanted to make a jackel thing. Like anubis.. but full body.

So far I have the head sorta done:

Im not sure where to go from here. Ive never really done animation, so treat me like a mentally handicapped n00b please. Im not even sure how I should start. Should I finish the first frame first? Make a wireframe to start? What do I do?!
I want to try these animations:
walk(upright)
run(upright)
run(all fours)
attack(weapon-upright)
attack(claws,mouth-all four)
jump(up right)

(also crit the head to bits)

I have:
MSpaint
Gimp
Photoshop
GraphicsGale

Hi man:

Im quite liking what you have so far, i think that maybe using that dark purple to colour maybe too harsh, maybe using a lighter variation of it, and keep the dark purple to sort of outline the dark parts.

Is the head supossed to be the head of the animation sprite or is it a portrait? If its the first case, i would recommend that you reduce the size, since this is your first animation, you will have a harder time with a large size.

Also, you may want to cast a shadow from the face to the neck area of the jackal.

Like i said though, my main concern is that you try your first animation at a large size...try your hand at a smaller size first.

Thank you for the reply :P

I'm not sure what you meant by 'dark purple' considering there are three dark purples.

The head was going to be the actual head of the sprite...
Maybe I could make enemies....or a completly different game...

And yes, I didnt really do anything to the neck, i will later.

The darkest one (the closest to black)

The head was going to be the actual head of the sprite...

Personally i advice against it for your first animation.

Post some updates when you have some  :y:

Dont use it?

When i animate i just tend to move from one frame to the other with the keyboard, like when you animate on paper and you flip the pages containing the drawings...

Or...you could read the help file of GG and find out why it doesnt work.

You need to designate whatever color the canvas/background is as the transparency color for each frame. Onion skin should work, then.

Thanks guys, i figured out that I was doing something wrong with the transparency when adding new frames.
This is my newest character.

Here is the animation I attempted for an idle stance.

Did this 8-bit sprite for another game too(you dont need to crit it)

The idle stance, looks like a dperessed walk. I am not sure what an idle stance could be, but that, is not it, it is however, a pretty sweet depressed walk animation, which goes perfectly with the character.
