one of my first real sprites... maybe ill use it in game...  ;D



P.S. its alien ship, side view...

The spaceship looks pretty good, but coming from me, that may mean nothing.  :crazy: The red strip is a little distracting though.  As for Mr. Davy, all I can say right now is that the colors are a little off.  I think he's a little more greenish-blue than yellow.
The above post may not be helpful at all, as the author usually has no idea what he is talking about.

The spaceship is really boring to look at, it's too dull really, if you're going to do a flying saucer, do it from an overhead angle so we can tell. Also he's a ref pic for you of Davy Jones. http://www.magicalmountain.net/images/MovieReviews/dead-mans-chest/davy-jones-progression3.jpg

Apologies for the one liner in advance...

You are having trouble finding good colors for davey? use the colors you used for the eyes, possibly a little bit less saturated, and you have a pretty nice pallette for him... What do ya know..it's not a one liner after all :D

EDIT_ forget what I said about the pallette, use lower saturated yellows.

i had exams and after them i just lost interest about davy...  :( so i probably wont finish him....

but i started to pixel a pirate and it would be grate if you would help me on it...  :)

Hmm for the prate, I would make hi more obviously a pirate, and I would raise the contrast, I can't really tell there is any shading on this peice at 1x.

This is just an overall critique on your palletes. Even though I like your Davy Jones, I think there is a lot of colors in that palette that are wasted because they're so close together (in shades). Same thing goes with your space ship. You seem to be using a gradient (11 greys, 5 yellows, 4 reds?), although this may not be a concern of you, it makes the piece look fuzzy and unattractive. You might want to use a reference on how to detail the ship without going over board on colors. MUCH better, but I'd do a bit more contrast in the skin. Nice improvement, though :)

Some ideas:
Draw it at an angle to suggest the shape/volume better. Kinda tricky to when pixling though, cuz you get jaggies, but getting volume might be worth it.
Also, you can try generic chrome. Blue up, Brown down.
Try to come up with some idea for functionality. Something which moves or folds out. Maybe it transforms?

Look at Arne's concept more. What are you missing? Range of values, from pure white specular to darkness. What are you missing? Volumetrics. The flat plane on the top would catch more light than the angled sides of the ship. Leave the dithering for after you've got a good grasp of the values.

You seem to have understood quite well.
That is looking much better.

The outlining still needs work, and the feet don't follow the same perspective as the rest of the ship.
I think this is a case where dithering is not helping, and your shades seem to end in very straight lines that arne't true to the form of the ship.

Made an edit, mostly saying: the selout on the top looks kind of bad. also, a couple lighting/aa/color/polishing suggestions. oh, and those reds were all quite close/wasted I think (though I didn't change that I well as I could have).



Anyways, very nice progress, feature-material maybe?

I'm (as well as many other people on this forum are) using Pro Motion, it's a pixel art suit with a built in animation package.. but if you're only looking for an easy way to stitch together a few images into an animation an alternative would be UnFREEz.

The further legs (the two in the back) are placed more widely than the two in the front. Shouldn't perspective dictate the opposite?

Your is possesive. You're means you are, thus you'd want to use You're right Helm instead of "Your right Helm"
And, err, more on topic:
If you don't want to do the work right now, then take a break. But leaving in a mistake you're aware of is kind of dooming yourself.
Besides, you wouldn't need to redraw the ENTIRE frames, just redraw the back legs.

Nice progress.
I think the pair of manipulators (first left and back right - in the line of move) do a very little step - feeling like a limp. The pairs must do identica step for this construction.
And need some reflex on back side on manipulator.

Just think - You not try do put forward his manipulators (some rotate)? i mean bend in coupling, if I right talk - put in forward the toe of manipulators of course with that move (step will be more larger).

Also since this moves, make the chrome reflections move subtly as it goes. Will give it a bit more life. Check metal slug games for reference on this.

the back/right leg (our right) does not seem to be making the same motion as the others, while it walks. Almost like it's limping..  You need to make sure you have it at this angle, in one frame ---> /
right now it only appears at this angle --> \     all the time, while the others go through both angles, creating the illusion that it's actually preforming a walk. Looking much better though now, great improvement.

edit: i really hope that made sense, i am on my laptop, and i haven't a gif editor to do an edit. also, finish davey jones! the lineart is really good.
