Pokémon Trainer Mirre

on: May 24, 2007, 11:24:08 pm

I've been playing alot of Pokémon Diamond lately. So, I was inspired to make a sprite of myself as a trainer! I'm gonna catch 'em all!

Here are the references I worked from (actual sprites ripped from Diamond/Pearl): http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/dptr.html No need to crit this, but feel free to do so if you like. I'm pretty sure I won't change much though.

That's sweet!  Maybe this could be the start of an activity....if i have to come up with a crit, its that the desat lines in the hair look a little off to me, would be nice if a darker or more saturated color was used there.  You have a few VERY close shades in the white/light-blue range, might be able to scrap one in favor of a helper color for the hair.  Maybe a little pedestal/fight area is next?

You've captured the style quite well.  I second the activity idea, seeing this has made me want to pixl me catchin' pokemans too.

thirded.

the design and color choices are nice.  some places, like the white shirt, look far smoother and more pixel arty than say, the right shoulder, but these might be failings of the style more than anything else
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

Enough posts talking only about the activity. :mean:
You can all start pixelling your trainers on your own.

The sprite itself is nice, I've never been a fan of the weird outlines and unpolishedness pokemon sprites have.
The black jumps out too much in my opinion.
But good job imitating the style.

Awesome. It's really clean and exactly the right style. Mind if I turn me and my boyfriend into trainers as well?
I eighth the activity, but I'll do it whether there'll actually be one or no.

Not a bad idea. I might just do that. Or at least pixel this version of myself a la "battle style" (http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/dptrba.html).

AdamAtomic Adarias: I blame that on the style of the actual game art. I used three blonde-haired trainers with short hair as references to nail the style of the hair. I'm not looking to improve the game art style, just trying to make this look as if it could actually be from the game. Colours are also snitched from the actual sprites. If this was something else than "fanart", I naturally wouldn't have coloured this way, and also used fewer colours in some places.

Oh, and anyone else who wants to pixel themselves as trainers - go ahead! It's not like you have to ask me for permission ^^; I'll gladly share the fun.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

The hair thing I think is actually slightly different than the other sprites - your character's hair uses a mixture of 2-4 colors here and there for the outlines and definition, which at 1x muddies and turns a bit gray, while the outlines and definition on the sprites I was looking at (At least the short, blonde-haired ones) only used a max of 2 colors, one of which was usually fairly bold and saturated.  I'm nitpicking here of course!
