Thanks, Adarias. I originally had it that way, it's just it didn't look as good. But now it looks less...cloudy or so I think without the dithering.

Quite WIP but still could use crits and such.

You need to extablish a light source, remove the sphere like stone parts make them more flat, and box like,

Just, a question out of curiosity? Have I not well established the light source is coming from the upper lefthand corner? I was just curious because it seemed really clear to me. But that is a biased opinion so, alrighty then.

in your last post, the final stage is not an improvement. you end up taking such well carved planes and smoothing the shit out of them so that they lose all sense of definition. you want to work with surfaces, not against them!

So I take out the final WIP stage and restart with the one before it. But that's where I get stuck as I"m not sure how to shade it otherwise. I'd always thought dithering was supposed to make things look rough.

dithering adds texture. But texture without hard edges equals carpet.

Ah, here we go. A bit of a sloppy edit, but I think this is what you meant Adarias?

I think you should just drop the segmenting of the rock all together and go for something more whole, I can't think of many rocks that form like that.
