The textures on those top image are delicious. Nice doodles along the bottom, too. I like the mystic/mysterio feel of the iso building. I'm not sure if it was intentional to only texture the front, or if you just got bored and wanted to move on. Either way, the result is nice.

Did you ever see Arachne's EGA platformer mockups? She also recently posted some RPG tiles and while I don't think they use hte ega palette, they have a bit of an EGA flavour to them.

The EGA mockups are in her pj profile.

And the rpg stuff I mentioned. Now that I'm looking at them again, they're much less EGA than I was thinking at the time I mentioned it. Not sure why I was thinking of it like that in my head.

Whoa, I love those EGA mock-ups. I've seen some of her work before and always associated her with other-worldly monsters and creepy line-art, (a lot of which is in this thread). Nice to see her other talents.

His legs animate a bit wonky, don't you think? Well, more like the transition from the first frame to the last. I imagine there's some way to improve that.

Other than that, I don't really see this as an attack, so much as a parry of sorts. His body language suggests that he's getting out of the way of danger rather than coming at it. One reason is probably due to the initial wind-up looking like a quick poke, and the actual attack looking like he's swiping whatever counter the enemy may have had out of the way. The other reason has to do with him backing and up, and generally being more upright than he should be. My guess is that this guy isn't really an adept fighter, but even so, I think my criticisms still stand. And, if he's meant to be a skilled fighter, even rudimentarily so, then you've got work to do.

Well, it's funny you mention that wonky transition.

First, I should clarify that you're actually looking at two attacks, each consists of 8 frames, where the first 4 are the slash, and the following 4 the recovery. After each recovery he will have a unique transition back to his idle stance (not yet made), or if the player presses attack again, they will initiate the next slash. Each period of recovery can be interrupted at any frame to perform another attack

Here is the final animation:

Perhaps it will be more obvious once the streak marks are put in (they will be on a different sprite layer) but I think it reads well once you see it looped properly.
No he isn't a seasoned swordsman, and it's very hard to convey that type of elegance especially when you're trading in realistic animation for responsive gameplay as I am.
