In the General Discussion forum there are a bunch of video tutorials in a thread, it's stickied. There are a few dealing with platformers in particular, and how to make rock textures and etc. Just watch through it and then try to apply it to your lines.

You need to download the techsmith plugin which Helm links to on the first post of that thread.

We are here to help, but not to hold your hand. Please try to read the posts and show some patience.

a quick search over at pixeljoint also returns a multitude of results of platform mockups, just more stuff to learn from and observe.

Cosmigo Promotion http://www.cosmigo.com/promotion

The lite and demo version do not have the awesome auto tile completion feature Helm is using in the video tho, which is the best thing since sliced bread as far as tiles go.

uhm... you should be able to find something^^

http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=3467.0
http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/tutorials.asp

didn't even use the search engine  :P

there are different kind of techniques how to make surfaces... the first thing though is to learn basic light direction, its hard ( I haven't master it) but its vital for the outcome of your image.

first to texture you image... figure out what kind of colour you want... then, from where the light are coming....

this is a good start... practice the light to begin with.... read tutorials in the links above...

come back with a nice picture for us to comment ;)

Quote from:
Grid
The grid can be used to let a brush snap to an invisible grid which you can define freely.
So a brush dot is only set on the cross points of this grid.
§ switch the grid on
§ select one of the built in brush shapes
§ select the single dot painting and try to draw something
This tool is also useful if you want to create tile based or symmetric graphics.

It's on their website. their own ****ing website.  ::)

Anyway, if you're going to be doing tiles, i'd suggest working with 16x16 tiles instead of this freeform thing you have going on, unless it's supposed to be a sort of 'ground' image, such as in Worms or something of that effect.

Before asking around just check the manual (Help > Contents) and read everything you don't know about.
Also experimenting wouldn't hurt.
If you want to get better, just practice, and learn by studying other people's works, reading tutorials or whatever.
Don't expect people to feed you just because you have your mouth open.

If this thread continues this way, I'll lock it.

I think the Promotion manual barely addresses the Auto-Tile complete feature.  Luckily I posted what I could figure out from Helm's video here:

I think it would be good if you made your own mockup instead of copying Grindie's: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=3713.0  Not only are you repeating his flaws, but you have added many of your own to the mix.  Serendor, your edit does not help in the slightest.

follow AdamAtomic advice...

do an entirely own image... using reference means looking and take inspiration from it..

If you are going to copy other people's pixel art without crediting them and without bothering to learn the fundamentals, and do nothing but pester people about software that has a manual and extensive coverage in the pixelation tutorials, then I would suggest that YOU don't post in here again.  If you don't want to hear tough feedback, then this is probably not the right board for you.  If you think advice isn't helpful, then this definitely isn't the right board for you.

Your piece is so full of pillowshading and unplanned detail that it is very clear you are just copying someone else's stuff, and not even studying the parts that they shaded properly, much less thinking about the structure and trying to improve on their work.  My comments were intended to derail this approach to "art".  If you want to make art, observe REAL LIFE, PHOTOGRAPHS, and the TECHNIQUES OF PROFESSIONALS to guide you, not random half-finished pieces that will perpetuate the bad habits you've already formed.

Also, if someone told you to look at Grindie's piece for reference, then A) they simply shouldn't have said that, and B) you clearly should not have listened to them.  If you are unable to tell even what you should be emulating, then you have some serious thinking and studying to do.  Sketch, paint, practice, and above all THINK.  These are the things that will further your skills and talents!

About rocks (underground) - paint this as on link, which I am give you (mirage post some work from Henk Nieborg). Rocks have more sharp corner, but you paint smooth too much this (i have similar problem  ;D ).
And if you want learn paint rocks - just take a SIMPLE task from youself - paint cube and do from him a rock, to rest upon lessons and comments another people.
Now you repaint work another people, but in there too much detail, which you not can paint, not for a while yet.
And for understand form different objects paint simple thing (apple, tree, table, stone), maybe now paint picture it is too early?
It's just my advice to you, not to do offend you!
If you do this you will make personal style and technics, with help another people and their technics.
