Sax is back, bio and work that needs some love!

on: March 24, 2007, 12:08:30 pm
Well I guess you can say I'm back, but I didn't really make an introduction for myself. Sadly, I'm 15 years old, and for the past 5 of them, I have been using and making sprites.

Now sadly, I haven't really improved. I have kept most of my major works on a sheet, which I'm guessing spans 4 years or so.

The images are in no particular order, but most of it is there.
Also, feel free to edit anything you find interesting, I'm not going to redo any of this unless alot of you convonce me to do one piece in more detail.

Then we move on to the year 2006. This is were I started moving away from sprites, and more onto larger and more detailed works. I joined PixelJoint. I only just realised what AA is, what dithering is. So that is nearly 4 years without knowing any of this. I'm still no good at it, and have read and looked at countless tutorials and images to try and help me.

So we have the first 3 months of 2007. I stopped doing anything for quite some time, just the odd thing or two, but this year I want that all to change and finally get "good". This is where everyone else comes in. I'm taking C/C to an extent, I apologise if anyone ever tries to help me and I don't do a thing about it, because chances are I have no idea what you're talking about.

Here is most of my recent stuff. I do see an improvement to a point, but I think I can do better.

-------------

Now here is something I'm trying to do lately.

I've been a bit gloomy lately, starting a new school, so I chose some depressing colours and a cake to try and cheer myself up. I know there is something I can do to this, and I hope you guys can find it. I find that the colours maybe could do some tweaking, maybe AA and selout? I'm not sure, that's what I'm hoping you can find.

Also on a side note here is something I whipped up today because I was at a friend's house all day playing PS3, which was just released here(Australia).

I thank you all in advance and hope to settle in!  :D

I love your sprites, and you reflections and line art is good on most of them. I think one thing that could improve your skills is trying to make a bit bigger piece (like 400-500 x 100-200) and trying to use really much shading and going towards realism. You sure are very creative though.

The last spritesheet was the only one that did not get butchered by photobucket's evil resizer/quality adjuster. Try cutting them down into smaller segments, maybe?

There is no problem with posting dumps like that, but what's the point of posting rips? I'd rather you just pick some of your better old original work for this thread. I'm a bit at loss for constructive critique at the moment, I also don't really know what piece to focus on, but maybe if you just post something new, and tell us a little bit about it, what you wanted to achieve, what you had trouble with, what you like, what you dislike about it, that would make things easier.

Ha, yeah, I knew Photobucket would stuff them up, I just had a feeling it might not of, I'll go back and change them.  :blind:

Well, I thought I would post all of it on a single sheet and not worry about it, so people can see all my work, and can see how I haven't really improved. Also just wanted to show where I am at, or was, back then.

Also, if you look under most of the introduction I made, you'll find a cake and PS3 that I was hoping for help.

Thats a cake? Oh well, doesnt really look like a cake o.O Is that a snake coming out of your "cake"? You should, in my opinion, use brighter colors for a cake, maybe also some pink. And probably remove the snake or whatever that is if its not a 4 year old cake ;o
