[WIP] A cliff

on: March 25, 2007, 05:10:16 pm
Hi, I'm new to these boards and relatively new to pixels.  Right now I'm trying to draw a cliff, but I'm having a lot of trouble with this one.

I have no idea how the cliff's side suppose to look like, can anybody help me?

Hey welcome to pixelation. I'm also pretty new. I'm working on a piece that is pretty similar to yours right now and maybe it can help you out a bit. For my cliff's edge I wanted it to have many clusters of rock. I'm not sure what style you're going for but here's a few examples that might help you out. Feel free to use any of them.

The tip of the flag cropping out of the image makes an uneasy composition.

Hope this helps:

Reverse-engineered from 'lomax', a playstation lemmings-game... Pixels in that 4th frame by Henk Nieborg, a person i'm fortunate to have worked together with, and learned a lot from

The first step should really only be forming in your head and you should probably move on to step 2 once you start drawing

As you can see, step 2 and 4 don't look so different... it's all about shape, not so much the filling in of colours and dithering

Yes, excellent resource, Mirage. Once form is controlled, then pixel art techniques can be used to finalize and pretty up, not hide errors in construction. More people should learn to abandon lineart and work with bigger brushes, blocking out volumes and lights. Snake works in a similar way, though not to the finish of master Nieborg.
