Icon Set

on: March 13, 2007, 01:50:25 am
Hey everyone. I've been working on an icon set for my website, which is http://thegriddle.net because I wanted a cool icon based layout that worked well with XHTML validity. I like my layout and I like my icons for the most part. The maze one is randomized using php, which I'm especially proud of, cause the coding for that is still a bit new to me. I'm posting mostly because although I may edit some of these, I mostly want suggestions for improvements on icons I make in the future. Anyway, enough jibber jabber (since most people won't read this anyway).

Edited to include mini icons for puzzle, answer key, links.

Added another icon for one of the magazines I'm doing puzzles for. Also working on a dark gray/black icon with some isometric stuff on it. Not sure what it will be for though.

Why are you using subpixel-antialiased fonts on some while using pixeled fonts on others? Also I would prefer a non-blurred shadow for such a clean design. Otherwise they are nice

Subpixel... Anti-aliased...
Philip, I'm pretty sure Sub-pixel is a term used entirely for animation...
Also, all of them are AA'ed, just some less than others. And on that subject, I think you could cut down the blurryness of the grey G. Doesn't really read well.
Oh yes naked women are beautiful
But I like shrimps more haha ;)

The term "subpixelantialiasing" isn't only used in animation. You can use it to make fonts looks smoother on a tft (Well actually its supposed to do that but imo it doesn't work). Since there are red green and blue subpixels in a tft-panel it uses these to show details of a font which aren't exactly placed on one pixel. example:

Now if this technique works, there should appear a black pixel in the white area above. (On my tft it doesn't).
You can enable subpixelantialiasing in windows, it's called "clearType".

yeah, you're right, was thinking of this effect in front of a black background, but then did it on a white bg ;)

Woah, neat trick :)

Anyway, I'm not sure exactly which icons you guys are pointing out, but the one with the blue question marks and the plain tg icon were just some placeholder icons I made to test out the new system, and I forgot those two weren't pixeled. I'll go in and replace them right now since I have nothing else to do atm.

Edit: Changed those two icons. Let me know if there's anything else you guys would like to comment on. :) Thanks for the c+c so far!

This is another new icon I've made. It's for word search puzzles.
