looking real good.  i think it looks kinda cheap how u reused the platform tiles in the background.  i like the clouds.  i say up the saturation on the bushes too.

Round off the corners on the ground tiles?  Or is that sort of like a trade-mark of the style?  To me it looks kinda out of place with the roundness of many of the other objects (trees, clouds, rocks, etc.)

That's actually one of the things I like most. It's like, consistent with the world the Mr. Fro is running around in, rather than having an extremely hard-edged foreground and an odd, different bg where stuff looks completely different. I've always had a thing for games that had styles extend into the background.
However, I think that if you added some perspective to the BG by shrinking the tiles in half, that would be even better. After all, the trees & rocks back there are smaller, so why not the ground and it's details?

I don't like the black lines for the borund. change it to a darker green, it would look better. And the bushes draw too much attention, make them a lighter hue/color.

New update.

Lighter bushes, new mountains and second background layer. Gotta work on the character animations now...they really aren't that great. Will post the temp one i'm using at the moment in a bit.

Edit: Run cycle...only 4-frames and not that great...any tips to improve it would be great.

Have you read this?  It teaches you how to make a smooth 8 frame cycle at the bottom. :)

New update.

(Hopefully) a better 8-frame walk cycle and a new in-game screen with a HUD-element added for health and life display.

I like the bg. The walk cycle has personality, but it needs work.

- Looks like you just repainted the forward foot on the further leg, it extends below the floor. Redo it properly.
- The body "hop" (vertical movement) is at the wrong timings.

On this forum, you'll find a link to a walking tutorial, often posted, much better than the one Fizz pointed to. Do a search. Also, look at how people walk, best way to do things right is use reference and pay attention.
