[WIP] theOccult

on: February 22, 2007, 06:01:34 am
I've been a lurker here for a bit, thought I'd post something.  This is my first try for the character for the game I'm starting work on.  [sarcasm]Woo.[/sarcasm]  Now, down to business.  I've been working on him for a bit and I'm totally frazzled (perhaps even vexed) as to how to shade his body.  By body I mean jacket.  I mean, he really isn't that strange hue of green... though his skin is white so that wouldn't be all that-- I digress.  I started, as you can see, to shade it like you see.  The problem is I don't want him like that.  I don't want nice flowing folds because I want him to retain his fairly basic shape, not too much detail.  I do, however, want to give him a fair bit of texture and form, not leave him looking so flat.  I'm also rather hesitant as far as his left arm goes.  I want him to end up being a fairly animated and dynamic sprite so please keep that in mind.  Anyway, crits and suggestion are mad welcome, and that doesn't mean I'll get mad at you.

Not bad. Maybe his arms could be more thicker. I would use a dark color orange for the outline of the scarf.

Anything else?  I've used a dark orange for the scarf outline and changed the arms a bit, but nothing at all drastic.  The newer version is on my home computer, so I can't post it 'til later, but it is almost identical.  Thanks.

Why not keep it as simple as it is (or even simpler - get rid of those two light green bars on the dark green shading). If you're design
is really simple it will be easy to draw and so you'll be able to have lots of frames. He looks like he's on stilts and it will be oool to see
you do a walk cycle. Would it be better to have larger hands though? (easier to see where they are). Also, if its a game, would it be
better to have the scarf as a different object?
Modern artists are told that they must create something totally original-or risk being called "derivative".They've been indoctrinated with the concept that bad=good. The effect is always the same: Meaningless primitivism
