Try a different palette. You've used this purple/blue/green/yellow colour scheme way too much.

Well, the only other piece I used it on is Beastie Boy...this is simply a more refined version of that palette. I only used it twice, I could be wrong of course...but as far as I know, this is the second time...
EDIT: Hmm, tried something blue:
Better?

Personally I think the Pixelator Challenge monster was better.
The Brown and Purple should stay but I think this monster would have a more darker look.
The chin looks like a chickens chin to.

not bad, but I would focus on getting the lighting on your broad shapes solid first, before you work on the dithering.  his hand, leg and face are all fairly flat and indistinct forms right now, compared to the chest and shoulders which have a lot of depth.

Ah, excellently noticed, Adam. I'll get right on it. I agree, I really need to be more patient and get all the volumes right first. Damn you impatience! * Slaps himself on the forehead, thrice *

I have a suggestion for you.
How about you try refining your sketches, rather then working off them.
Because right now you're doing everything wrong...

Right now it seems you're going...
Sketch -> Choose Colors -> Dithering

Try doing...
Sketch -> Fix up lines -> Choose colors -> Finish basic shading -> Dither

You're dithering much too early in the peice.

I agree to some point with Souly. You need to work more from generic to specific. Do your lines, they can be sketchy, as they will be pixelled over anyway (I for my part see no need whatsoever in doing superclean lines, I only do it when I do geometrical stuff that needs construction). Once you have a decent sketch, think about how many colours you wanna use and make some ramps that suit your needs ok. Then block in your colours, THEN detail such as dither and aa. I don't do this myself all the time, but it is good practise in general.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

I agree. So as of now, (I'm glad I saved the uncleaned lines) I will completely re-work this by cleaning up (atleast a bit) first, then doing basic shading, then dithering/details. Because I think it will not result in anything good if I continue this way. It will take a while, but it will be a good test of patience. Thanks Ptoing and Souly.

You *are* getting better, but I'm not sure you should focus a lot on 'deformed beast'. I mean a few pieces are okay, just don't get stuck in that sort of vein, I don't think it serves as a good place to be in terms of learning anatomy and texture and coloring and so on. You should be paying more attention to anatomy and construction rather in attempting (bravely though, I give you that) interlace dithering over everything.

Thank you Helm. I have now decided to go for a fighter sprite instead, to work on my anatomy:

Only the lines yet, any critiques on the anatomy so far?

Well... lots. But why not buy an anatomy book and learn that way? I swear it's better than people editing you on the internet.
