[WIP] Watch your back

on: February 12, 2007, 03:02:08 am
Very early, just roughed and started pixelling face.

Not happy with proportions so any feedback would be tops. Hands will be shrunk some when pixelled, was originally going to be less human.

A watcher hitching a ride through the corporeal with its host.

2^4 - 4 colours.

I'm loving it man so far. Since this is an early piece I can't crit it much except the starting shading on the left arm looks a bit funky to me. Good Job so far tho.

Could definetely benefit from some AA.

Looks like something out of Sals' head.
And I am finally seeing that you were the one worth eating.

Looking quite nice so far, polish, polish is all I can say.

And indeed, it DID remind me of this one by Adam instantly, more or less just a similar pose and stuff on the back.

THOSE LEGS....THEY CONFUSE AND BOGGLE THE MIND!

Ok, so you see where they intersect? The front and back legs have the same values, so it looks like the feet could belong to either leg. It also doesn't help that the one leg's pant ends just where the other leg's knee should be, so it could seriously be misinterpreted.
Like it is by me.
I can see 2 positions for each leg.

not only the leg issue that was mentioned in the above post, but his arms and hands are way out of proportion.  his arms are the same size as his legs, and his hands are bigger then his head.

Well, Considering this is an origonal.....Thing?.by Surt, it doesn't really seem that he would be confined by normal human proportions....

Looking awesome, not much to crit on right now, But I am indeed tired..so We'll see in the morning :-[

GOODNIGHTdestroyer and ptoing: Quite unintentional but could well be subconscious influence there, pose is essentially the same except that the arms are in the flipped position.

PS: Your sig quote is originally from Friedrich Nietzsche ;)
Not quite, one letter different, from Aeon Flux (series not movie).

Xion Night: Yes, hopefully that is no longer a problem.

eck: Hopefully fixed now.

Reluctantly cracked open my crappy anat book to rework proportions, thinned arms, adjusted legs and shrunk head. Still not quite satisfied, and head looks a little large yet.
Added a couple of intermediary skin tones.
Much of the base pixelling done, just got to finish pixelling rear limbs, hair, hump and tentacles, then detailing/AA pass.

I think your colours are to dark.
Add less/more detail to the face.
If you know what I mean.

In my opinion, there's no problem at all with the dark shades. Just see to that they don't flow together too much :]

Anyways, I think the outstretched hand has problems, I mean, it looks stiff in an unnatural way, can't really explain it. :\ So yeah, it's like my only gripe with the piece, cause I love everything about it :]]

Jad - I agree about the right arm. It may be the way the muscles are drawn.

Other than that, I like the colors and the overall piece is every cool and disgusting in a good way. :-)

I think it looks really great. If you've played chaos engine up to the third world, there are these Spider nests that kind of grow bigger and
smaller type thing. Anyway, it would be great if this piece could be animated in a similar way, with the whole egg sack pulsating and the
skin closing over some of the eggs (and opening again). The pose maybe could be better but i wouldn't know how to improve. Maybe if his left arm was
hanging loose (and not touching ground) and his right arm was leaning against a door frame or something. It would be a very scary creature to come into your house!

Haven't addressed any critisisms since my last post yet, but here's what I got so far.

Rerg1: I've been screwing with my monitor settings a bit lately so it may well be too dark for a more standard setting, I'll look into it.
No idea how the face can need to be both more and less detailed though.

Jad: I might curl some of the fingers more, lost most of that when I redrew the hand.

khorin: I thought Jad meant the left arm? I have reworked the lighting on the right arm some, which hopefully remedies this to some degree.

sharprm: What egg sack? Its a watcher damnit! Those are corporeal-ethereal interfaces extruded from the watcher's ethereal core to anchor it to its host, and hence into corporeality.  ;)
The pose is still rather awkward looking I'll try to come up with something.

Well the face is detailed but I think you should strech your colours more.

Upped brightness some.
Added knuckle highlights (so now the near hand actually looks somewhat like one).
Shortened torso a few pixels.
Tweak fingers of far hand.

2^4 colours.
