Robot-SciFi-Thing (done)

on: February 10, 2007, 01:29:25 am
Yea, very original title. Anyway, I haven't really been pixeling much lately, and I'm trying to get back into the groove right now, since I've got some free time on my hands.

I think there are issues with the pose of the robot, the legs mainly, I can never come up with satisfying poses for characters. The floor and background are still wip, I also need to find a different palette for them, since the robot currently merges with the wall. C&C welcome of course :)

The background makes it hard to see him clearly.

all of the shapes on the back wall seem to be squares with 45 lines.  good start, i prefer this new pallete.

I removed the 45 angles at the grid, but I'll leave the rest as it is. Added some more details and the robo-sphere. Don't know what else to do with it, I think I'll leave it at that if nobody has anymore suggestions.

Add a sleazy looking character sitting on the box. Make the robot be conversing with someone. This looks like something straight out of a point+click adventure game. Maybe add some dialogue/monologue to the blackness on the bottom and some sierra-like icons to the top. Man, bring this scene to life!!! The robot has so much...stuff that it would be a shame to just leave him alone like that.

Oh, maybe a rat, too.

Heh, thanks for the suggestions ... I wasn't sure if I should turn it into a point & click mockup, but I think that's the right decision. Here's an update, with animations and all, turns out to be kind of cyberpunkish, inspired by Beneath A Steel Sky. I don't think I'll add another character though, I'm not that good at anatomy so I don't want to ruin anything at this point (that's the reason why the body on the floor is under a blanket as well ;). I'm not really satisfied with the hot-air animation, it's too random. I think it should probably be more of a regular wave-like motion? Difficult to pixel though :/

Gorgeous. :D
But yeah, the heat waves (is that what you call them? :P) need work. You could just shake the background back and forth (like what happens in real life) or something. But that wouldn't be realistic for the mockup if this were a game back in the ol' point n' click days....
Maybe just a puff of smoke or maybe just any number of downward thrust particles to suggest levitation.

Oh, BTW, the fan is a great touch.

I could seriously imagine that robot walking up to a barkeep and being like "show photograph" then be like "have you seen this woman?" and the barkeep goes like "No, I wasn't here yesterday. I was sick. But my brother ran the place for me. Ask him. He's upstairs." Then the robot goes upstairs and the brother is all like "HUWAH!" Then he pushes Mr. Robot out the window after a brief struggle, where he finds himself in all sorts of trouble...

Sorry, I kinda lost my train of thought there. But this is great anyway.

Excellent additions! Definitely brings the piece to life. Just one thing: That body on the floor...um is there something else under that sheet?
