Syd Barrett CGA

on: February 09, 2007, 06:17:16 am

Just a quick lil' thing, done with the CGA palette (my eyes are bleeding). Ref used: http://www.pinkfloydforum.de/bilder/syd_barrett/links_250.jpg Crits would be cool.

Since this is a quickie, this thread may also serve as a pixel dump thread in the near future. If there's one thing the world needs more of, it's pixel dumps! :B

this needs polishing. the likeness just isnt there. i see more of a disgruntled homeless person. the eyes arent even properly aligned.

more work son. i like the overall look though.

I love it.  But calcium-lime-rust is right, it doesn't exactly look like him; I think maybe the face could be more slim, his left eye could be lifted a bit, and both could be made the same size as the other, and his nose could be straightened some.  It also seems like his moustache wraps around and connects to his lips....maybe even make the 'stache less distinct and more five-o'clock-shadow-y.  But you have done great with the limited palette.  With a bit a work, this thing will be spot on. Can't wait to see more stuff.

Thanks for the crits, guys. Any more would be very much appreciated. :D

PS. Whoops, I forgot to straighten out his nose. That's on the to-do list. :y:

You got to spend some extra time trying to get that general likeness before you go onto fine detail. Like, have your reference image inches away from your work, constantly looking back and forth. I may have spent too much time on this considering its an edit but I have lots of fun trying to capture alikeness.

the shading is somewhat dull, maybe add a highlight tone? And the new version looks better.

I'm not going to pretend this is a small task either; certainly none of us here can claim to have accomplished it.  it's the realm of masters.  still, it's what we all have to try for.

You cant add a highlight tone because he is using a restricted pallette.
