How to create a scary, or spooky atmosphere?

Hi, I'm new to the forums, and I was recently working on a piece for my game, and I'm trying to create a scary, dark, or spooky atmosphere, but I just can't make it look the way I want it. I was wondering if anyone could give me tips to achieve that? Thanks.
