Im new and looking for advices ^-^/")

Hey there everybody
A friend of mine told me about this place and also told me I should have a look and sho my pixel arts.

Im currently working on a good ol' 2D Platformer.
YAY, Sprites /")

But, no worries, my friend also told me I shouldnt show off my game, but stick to sprites instead
I will follow that advice.

Well, what I am here for comes next:

I like the good old 2D sprites style...and my game uses those..
But I'm not really satisfied with the results I got.

Here is an example:



Take the bushes for example....they look to flat ;_;
Or the ground..it looks boring...
The background is boring too, but my friend told me not to talk bout em, you guys here dont like backgrounds or somethin like that ^^;

Well, Im here to take advices from those who know about pixel art
I hope that this is the right place for me to learn

on an off-topic note, i think i saw this over at the gamemaker forums, there was an issue with slopes or something? how'd that work out?

I don't have much of a critiquing mind today, and i'm on my way out.
