Original Gameboy Mockup Homage

on: January 15, 2007, 05:50:36 am
I recently saw a thread with a piece of work that I really liked so I decided to take a part of it and remake it  ;D

The orginal thread and piece of work by Shifty McSly was my inspiration and guide can be found at http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=1728.0

I than went from that to make the knight from the lower picture in a smaller form but still keep the same style since I liked it so much

This is completed piece

Original I made

GBC pallette version of mine (most recent)

Outline for editting or creating your own

Critism,questions,and edits are welcome

Also just a quick thank you to Shifty for making such a cool piece of work that kept me busy for a while  :P

Teensy crit -- the shadow on the feet should probably be a shade lighter -- right now it's fairly indistinguishable from the feet themselves.

if you want to be emulating a gameboy color style, the most important thing is color count.  a gameboy color sprite can only have 4 colors, one must be for transparency.
i made an edit, take what you want from it:

I have melded the two darker colors so I could make the correct GBC template which is now in the first post along with the original five color one

I also made the shadow on both lighter to make the feet more noticable

Nice edit and keep the comments coming

That new one still wouldn't work...Not unless you want to either have white be transparent (including the white that's making up his body) or just have no transparency.
It's 4 colors including transparency.
I think if you just replaced the black with the darkest gray and dithered the shadow it would comply with the GB limits.

Yes, that's it. Now, for some crits:
He looks like his legs are pointing kind of inward like he has to pee or something. I think if you pull his lower legs apart a bit, and point his feet outward, he'd have a more knightly stance. I also think it's weird that the cross on his chest has shading...is it indented?
He looks pretty holy to be an "Alucard"...
Nice, though.

I might just turn this into an animation showing every change and step since Ive learned quite a bit and I think this is my best compared to the only other completed one I have posted on this forum and all my other random pieces

Remember more tips, edits, and comments are welcome    ;D
