Some Isometric characters and tiles

on: January 14, 2007, 04:10:14 am
Crits please, I'd like to make these better. I struggle with the iso perspective still. And color choice.

There are 2 seperate characters here and the grass tiles of course.

I haven't taken a great look at it (as I don't have much time) but my first reaction was "Was this saved as a jpeg?"... then I zoomed in and saw it wasn't... but it looks almost kind of blurry. More colour contrast?... Good start though  :)

Blue shadow doesn't look good. They're arms are too short also.
Modern artists are told that they must create something totally original-or risk being called "derivative".They've been indoctrinated with the concept that bad=good. The effect is always the same: Meaningless primitivism

I think it looks good. Yes the only point is the shade of the characters , I'd say gray/green shade

I'm working on this class male and female, I'm not sure the female is as good however.
On this one I tried to lengthen the arms and changed the shadow color as was suggested. I believe the arms should come to waist level.
Also,  to Conexion, what specifically looks like it needs more contrast? the tiles, people? both? clothing, face? I'd like to know.
I will repost the others with changes soon.

Nice, I like the style and the colors. Anatomy-wise, on the average human body standing straight with the arms fully extended, the wrists will be just below the belt line, with the tips of the fingers ending right around mid-thigh. Lengthening the arms and legs any more in your sprite will probably lose the style you're going for, so I would try making the torso a bit shorter instead.

[EDIT] Your female looks a bit like a guy with a wig. Women typically have smaller waists, smaller hands and feet, wider hips and another very obvious difference. ;)  :o

I  hope this is an improvement...

by the way I didn't change the male because his waist is actually under that tunic or whatever you call it, so I think the legs are the right length.
Crits please.

I wanted to explain about the female form but I couldn't get it right so I did a tiny and quick edit of the girl. I hope you don't mind

The one problem I see is the legs and feet. They seem really spread out and the feet also curve outward.

I made a small edit to show you what I mean:

Actually, now it looks a bit like Rambo with a corset. Giving a waist and boobs to a male sprite doesn't make it look female. It's about the overall features, head shape, shoulders (very important!), legs, and pose as well. I made a very quick edit. But I hope it helps. The sprite also missed a neck so I lowered the shoulders, I also moved up the waist and changed the legs' positions.
