Well, how many times does that 666 ocur? once. That wouldn't be too much imo.
I've acually seen it pretty often. Thread views: 666, someone's post count: 666, etc. Not that rare, really. Unless I'm the only one (un)lucky enough to see them.

Oh yeah, got rid of my last name.

Hey, y'all.

I was reading college brochures, and most say you need a laptop. I figured it'd be good to get one anyways, but here's what I'm looking for:

I'd like something between 600 and 800 dollars. The brand isn't important to me, so much as it's reputable, and I won't get screwed. I'd like something with enough power to run games like CS:S, and HL2. It doesn't need to run them full settings without lag, I'd say just medium settings.

Also, something with wireless internet.

I'm not looking for specific computers, since I don't have the money for it right now, but I will in a few months, and I was looking for some guidance.

As far as brand, any ideas? I'm looking on newegg, and there are lots of "Acer" notebooks, but I've never heard of Acer before. Are they alright?

Also, is 512 MB ram going to be enough?

Is it even possible to build a laptop from scratch, like you would a desktop system?

I would check Dell out for some good, cheap computers since you mentioned 600-800 dollars. You can "build" your own laptop at Dell as well as other brands like HP. Me boyfriend got my laptop from Dell and I must say I'm liking it, so far. Here's the link: http://www.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/inspn?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

He purchased the Inspiron 1501 just because it was way cheaper than the 1505 as the former uses AMD instead of Intel as well as other features I don't care about.

About the ram...I'm not quite sure if all new computers will have Vista but if that's the case, 512 will definitely not be enough. :-/ Otherwise, 512mb will suffice.

Anyway, here's what I have just to give you an idea:
Less than $600
512 MB ram
50GB hardrive
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 - 256mb shared memory
If there's anything else I forgot to mention that you'd like to know, just tell me.

I must say, I love playing games but I hardly play games on this laptop only because I've been too busy learning to pixel. :-p

I'm pretty sure you could get a better laptop than what I have if you're willing to spend more than 600 buckaroos.

Good luck!

Just to note, a lot of colleges that I looked at have their students get a standardized laptop that comes with a large package of software pre-installed.  Of course, these were mostly tech schools, so you might find something very different.

Regarding the laptop you would get, I would recommend 1gb of RAM, since that's frequently the limiting factor in performance or multitasking or whatever.  Also, if you want a laptop that can run higher-end games, you might have to spend a bit more than you're allowing (though admittedly, I haven't looked at laptop prices any time recently).
Always remember: a preposition is not something you should end a sentence with.

I removed the Michi one since that one is over as Michi HAD (past tense) birthday. And thus the last slot is empty.
And indeed Opacus might get a feature.
