Favorite Color

Nice and simple: What's your favorite color? Explain, if you want.

Mine most favorite is brown/olive drab because of its naturalness/earthiness, and my second most favorite is grey, because it's insanely neutral and extremely versatile.

My favorite color has always been blue.
I like it because it's so pleasant and soothing to look at. Also, it's next to both green and purple on the color spectrum which are also lovely colors.
Yup, I'm into the cool color tones opose to the warm color tones.

Heh. You pretty much described my eye color. I have dark greenish-brown eyes.

Well I guess I'm somewhat similar to Ryona in that I prefer cooler tones. Blue being my favourite of them.
Not a particular fan of purple, but I also like greens and greys.

Blue is my favourite colour. Probably of the same reason as Ryona. I like black too (90% of all my clothes are black), although technically that isn't a colour.

I really can't stand pink though.

I've always been partial to deep, deep, dark purple, white, and gold(royal colors if you will...) But mostly purple, thanks to years of envying my favorite turtle, Donatello. You gotta be down with the "Don."

Donatello's my favourite, too. I used to think when playing the games that he'd give me extra range with his stick. That's kinda what that came from.

Once upon a time, it was green, because green is one of those "cool", "masculine" colors. Then it changed to blue when I found my favorite color should be a color I actually like looking at. It went from dark blue, to deep purple, to dark blue again. Now I've changed my mind, just to get a theme going, and I now claim it's a mixture of white and cyan. Not pleasant to look at, but like I said, I've got a theme going, and it's a very characteristic combination to use in games and such. People usually don't consider painfully bright street racing cars to look good. People also don't expect to see white and cyan running around in action games. It stands out really well.

They say that if you see the world in a more blueish way you'll prefer colours such as red more, and vice versa. Hmm...

I like greens and reddish oranges i guess, i used to be very into earthy colours aswel. I cannot stand blue, most of the time. I think it goes well with brown if it's a rich blue, but most of the time it's overused and reminds me of businesses, default designs and hospitals and the like.. eurgh.

At some point I decided my favorite colour was red. I guess it's got to do with the fact that everything red is/was cooler than the rest. (Raphael was my favorite for that reason I guess. :P ) I still have a soft spot for red, but it's usually in a more orange hue now. On the other hand, I think no colour looks it's best on it's own.

I've got the tendency to link people to colours. One of my brother's blue, my dad's green, a friend of mine is black/red and so on. Wednesday is blue, it just is. Have no idea why though. At the same time, I link people that are black/red to the number 6. Yellow is 8 or 12. Blue is 2 or 5. It's just for a few specific things though, I don't do that to everything.

Yeah.. that's more or less the reason why I try to stay away from blue. Every corporate client that comes to my studio always pushes towards blue in their designs because it's "nice and relaxing, cool." Really what they mean is that it's "nice and safe and generic." Once in awhile, a big client comes in that breaks that mold, though. BBC wanted hot pink to be the key color in a pitch we did for them recently, that was really interesting.

I think I tend to like bolder, brighter colors because they're more volatile and you have to consider them more carefully. Ugly color palettes are my favorites, because they challenge you more.

I remember reading about that some time ago. It's fascinating. I tend to associate some non-visible things with other senses, but just because I find it easy to describe that way. It's probably got to do with earlier associations, that make me link certain sounds to colors, or colors to tastes. I definitely don't have that there thing.

Still, I can easily find myself describing the synth sound I'm listening to right now as pale red. With a hint of vanilla? No... that's just aftertaste... I really need to brush my teeth...

If I had to pick, it'd be olive green, though I can appreciate every colour (including hot pink) because in general, everything and every colour has it's own use, some images look best when hot pink with black; others look good when green&red;

In general what someone said earlier, only colour combinations can be really ugly, and even those can be groovy, if done properly  ::)

how would be able to tell.  You can never view a color without looking at the colors around, whether it be on a computer program or in real life.  unless you had an entire room painted souly in that color you wouldnt be able to tell.

That's not true, there are plenty of ways to view one colour at a time- you just need to think harder.

Perhaps coloured paper or going into paint and filling the entire window a certain colour might work?

That's not true, there are plenty of ways to view one colour at a time- you just need to think harder.

Perhaps coloured paper or going into paint and filling the entire window a certain colour might work?

you'd still have the color of your monitor, the paint program colors, the colors reflcting around your room.

oh come on...look at where you are BOB...it's an art board, one which is focused on very economic and carefull color usage, what did you expect? :p

on an unrelated note...I hear before that Vincent Van Gogh had a color theory that said that every single color you saw was new, because every color you ever saw has affected you so you cant see the exact same color twice. I used to think that was exagerated but after a trip in which I saw the sea for the first time...I came back to my house and it does look very diferent, it looks a lot warmer...everything looks warmer. go figure.

What about extremely tinted glasses?

or....just the right kind of lightbulb.

many of us must have gone to a dark room, I atleast know what it's like to be submerged in red.

it kinda defeats the purpose XD you start seeing as if red were white :p it is really amazing how good our brain is at color balancing.

how would be able to tell.  You can never view a color without looking at the colors around, whether it be on a computer program or in real life.  unless you had an entire room painted souly in that color you wouldnt be able to tell.

Easy fix, all you have to do is get the other colours out of your field of vision. eye-balls-to-monitor style.

I don't think i can agree with 'colours can only look ugly in a group'... when i'm selecting palettes, the individual colours seem to look much better as part of the group, than if you fill an entire MSPaint canvas with that single colour. Even take an ugly palette, and i think there'll be individual colours which stand out as looking quite nice against the rest. On their own, it may not be so obvious... oh yeah, and i dislike blue on it's own, so go figure lol.

For some reason I like really desaturated colors.  Here are 6 colors I picked at random that I liked.

I like blue, purple, and green mostly.  Yeah, cool colors.

I'm a big fan of palettes, not necessarily individual colors.

Blues, browns and pinks are ones I like to stick to in pixel art.

Mmm COLOURlovers

In addition to the color of Awesome Sunset, which cannot be contained to a single color but rather must be described in a vast spectrum, I enjoy deep green, as that found in lush fields and summer forests, as well as the blue you see when you peer into the sky on a sunny afternoon and realize how good life is. Purple is also cool, as in the royal lavender and velvety goodness used to drape kings of old.
But mainly deep green, and anything away from brown, unless it's reddish brown, which reminds me of those people that were once in America that white people killed off...what were they called again?
Oh, I also enjoy the color of autumn leaves in the absolute pinnacle of their death, when they still fill the trees in abundance and still cling to their last breath before drifting solemnly to the ground and greeting it with a light sorrow to have come apart from that great, sustaining entity known as Tree.

As for colors I dislike, I hate any shade of yellow (unless it's shiny like a car) and have no tolerance for the color "ugly," as found on the faces of people who display said trait.
