I don't understand starting off with floating sections of land.
I've seen a strategy like this used to make some interesting houses and iso pieces before in a pixel tutorial.
I've always wanted to try it myself, seems like great practice for texturing.
Right now there isn't much to critique, show us what form you're going to draw in the space  ;D

However, if we take character size into account, sorry to say, but the cave entrance is a bit too small. Try increasing it's size so it actually looks like someone can crawl in, and, substantially, crawl out, while also bumping up the tiles above the cave entrance to give it a better feel that it's an actual cave.

It can be of varying sizes, but by default I see people usually larger than the tiles. If you plan on having them as small/smaller than the tiles, then sure, just a slightly larger entrance and it'll seem better so far.

cave
–noun
1.   a hollow in the earth, esp. one opening more or less horizontally into a hill, mountain, etc.

The reason why a character is usually one tile wide and two tiles tall (approximately) would be because tiles are only really used in games, and... eh, I don't have to explain further, do I? Honestly, I don't really see the reason for having tiles that much bigger than characters, if you're going to have characters in it. Since, if it was a game or something, that wouldn't make much sense.

Augh, I can't put my thoughts into words today... Anyway.. eh... Good luck?
