Hello

on: December 11, 2006, 01:24:36 pm

Hello all!

It's strange to see the return of the pixelation site, and with some familiar names here too! It's been some time since I was last active on pixelation, but I'm looking forward to seeing some of your great art here on this site. :)

Richard.

Hello Helm.
Good to see you are still around. Are you still conducting secret graffiti raids? ;)

Thanks for the vote of confidence Ptoing! ;)

Hey, I like those cool self-portrait avatars. Is no-one doing a christmas themed avatar yet though?

Ok, well I guess it's been a long while since I posted this. :)

For those who didn't see it, a few years ago I decided to try to copy a movie frame from one of my favourite films at full size and in only 16 colours to test my copying ability. ;)

I took a screengrab from the DVD of one of my favourite films Amelie and traced the outlines in a white colour. I then made all the other colours black so I had only a rough 2 colour outline drawing. Using solid and dithered fills I blocked in the base colours, added shading and refined each area again and again, until I come up with the finished picture. I did work from a traced outline and used dithered fills in a paint package, but everything else was hand drawn. The white highlight colour made a surprising difference to the image, I couldn't sacrifice it for a bright yellow like I wanted to originally. I also used heavy dithering both in the luminance and the hue channel. :)

Here is the movie still:

The progress pictures and then the movie still again:

And the final picture:

Hey there, I remember you by that image editor you were programming, geared towards pixel art creation. Never tried it, heh :P

Alex is Kon(spiracy) btw.
