Software recommendations?

on: September 05, 2018, 08:25:41 am
I just recently started getting back into pixel art and animation after some 10 years of pause and am a bit out of the scene now.

I used to use MS Paint and Jasc Animation Shop 2 or 3 back then and later when I lost JAS I started using Gimp with MS Paint and that just doesn't seem to be the best combo really... I sort of like MS Paint in all it's crappiness but I'm up for suggestions. Layers would be great....

So I'd like to know what softwares do you people use for pixel art (and animation)? What would you recommend and why?

Hey, I used to use JASC Paint Shop Pro/Animation Shop too and they were pretty great for pixel art back... 15 years ago, was it? Asprite is great, but let me also put in a vote for Cosmigo Pro Motion, it's been my tool of the trade for a long time, if you like Deluxe Paint and understand that workflow, it'll feel natural. If not, it has a bit of a learning curve.

If you don't want to download anything, I suggest making an account on pixilart.com. It has everything you need to make good pixel art.
