Beginner.... ish

on: December 11, 2006, 10:34:58 pm
Well, I have always dabbled in a bit of pixel art ever since I was a small child, I'm excited to find a community on the subject. Well, the thing is I have always wanted to dive deeper into it, maybe a profession, I don't know, but I do also enjoy dabbling in some game creating. So, the thing is, I have the ideas in my head, but I have no idea how to put it on "canvas" per se :). What I am really lacking in is the human Anatomy and color theory, including palette choosing and such techniques. I also have to work on shading. Are there any guides about this on the net? Any good books to pick up? A lot of this is basic art concepts that I have trouble picking up on. I like to observe a lot and try to mimic what I see, and pick up some skills and techniques.

Anyway, hello all, my name is am_pm. Nice to meet you!

welcome aboard.  There are quite a few good sites with pixel tutorials and all of that good stuff.

For techniques a good site to check out would be www.spriteart.com .  There is a really huge compilation of links/tutorials in this thread as well: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=222.0

and on the subject of choosing colours / colour theory, there is this thread: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=922.0

Also, there are some process videos here (i learned a lot about color picking / techniques from watching these, personally): http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=2144.0
