Back at it again after 6 years

on: June 22, 2018, 01:52:36 am
Haven't drawn anything yet alone any pixelart since about 2012. Picked up on a piece today I never finished then. This used to be my default palette.
Got real nostalgic listening to some Crystal Castle on my hard drive and got pixeling. Some real nostalgia visiting these forums.

Care to post the full palette? It is an interesting choice of dark yellow, I am curious on how it relates to rest. I am guessing a strong hue convergence and cap on the brighter colors. I am always curious on other people's choice logic, as a way to learn to color stuff differently.
Very cool rendering. :y:

I remember loving all the stuff in your PJ gallery way back when -- glad you're getting back into it! :)

It looks pretty much solid as is; maybe someone with better foundational drawing skills than I have could come up with more substantial critiques, but for what it's worth, here's a messy edit with some stylistic ideas. Biggest thing I noticed is that you have a lot of unused real estate at this resolution to go crazy with details. Oh, also, something about the viewing angle of the rear leg feels off, like we're seeing too much of its underside. The palette is really fun!

You made your point pretty clear with the visual explanation.
I guess why I always stuck with the odd style was my inability to properly make use of the real estate as you put it. I tend to rush for the details too quickly.

This is way ahead of what I could ever see. I'll definitely spend some time on your sketch.  Thank you so much!  :y:;D

The Palette for anyone too lazy picking it out: (EDIT: wrong palette fixed)

Ah sorry, I am not that lazy :D, as you said default I thought it was part of a larger pallette :P. Regarding the critique, I am found of clean surfaces. The edit is awesome, but it loses a bit of that unsettling organic effect the original has, it feels creepier to me.

Obviously the sketch is very rough but ultimately a more suiting style for the spirit IMO. Trying to clean it up to understand it still. But still can't quite wrap my head around it  :-[
I'm not quite sure how to avoid leaving to much room on the top cover (sheild) without making it look messy. Amorphous did a great edit but haven't figured out how to clean it up yet. I got to get drawing more I suppose  :y:;D

Thanks for your imput Vinik!
